Blackburn Introduces Across-The-Board 1%, 2% and 5% Spending Cuts
October 29, 2019
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) introduced across-the-board spending cuts as amendments to S. Amdt. 948 to H.R. 3055, the CJS-AG-INT-THUD minibus appropriations package yesterday. The amendments seek to cut 1%, 2% or 5% of all spending accounts under the bill, including the Departments of Commerce, Justice, Agriculture, Interior, Transportation, and Housing and Urban Development.
“The government never gets enough of the taxpayer’s money. If you send it, they will spend it,” said Senator Blackburn. “At the rate Washington is spending, we’ll be leaving our children and grandchildren with an enormous amount of debt, which is immoral. By working with federal agencies to cut back, we can drive down our spending, our annual deficit, and our national debt.”
BACKGROUND
Senator Blackburn has introduced 1%, 2% and 5% across-the-board spending cuts, either as amendments or as stand-alone bills, since she was first elected to the House of Representatives to serve in the 108th Congress.
