Blackburn: Situation at the Border is Heart Wrenching

June 11, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) spoke about her recent trip to the southern border at a Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing on “The Secure and Protect Act: A Legislative Fix to the Crisis at the Southwest Border” with Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Kevin McAleenan.

From Senator Blackburn’s Remarks
“This is just such a heart wrenching situation, especially when you look at the children. There was even a one-year-old in that facility, she was there with her mom, who is a minor child.”
“Traffickers of these children are really taking advantage of the loopholes that exist… Many times these adult sponsors are themselves in the country illegally. They are not related to this child and they do not have this child’s welfare at heart.”

Acting Secretary McAleenan thanked Senator Blackburn for visiting the border and recognizing the hard work of Department of Homeland Security officials.
