WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) joined CNBC’s Ylan Mui and Wilfred Frost on Closing Bell following the first Senate Judiciary Committee Tech Task Force to tackle technology issues including privacy, data security, censorship and anti-trust. Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) named Senator Blackburn Chairman of the Tech Task Force, with Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) serving as co-chair. 

“We’re going to move to a day where the consumer owns their data,” said Senator Blackburn. “They’ve figured out they’re the product when they’re using some of these online apps and that their data is very valuable. It doesn’t matter if it’s healthcare and financial services or if it’s their social media interactions.”

Yesterday’s Tech Task Force meeting included four panelists: Snap Chief Privacy Officer Katherine Tassi, Match Global Head of Privacy Idriss Kechida, Salesforce Global Privacy Officer & Executive Vice President Lindsey Finch, and Mozilla Head of Americas Policy Heather West.

In April, Senator Blackburn introduced the bipartisan BROWSER Act to require communications and technology companies to provide users with clear and conspicuous notice of their privacy policies and the ability to opt-in to the collection of sensitive information and to opt-out of the collection of non-sensitive information.
