Blackburn: Barrett Believes the Court’s Role is to Apply the Law, Not Make It

September 29, 2020

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This morning, Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) joined Fox Business’s Varney & Co. to discuss Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination to the Supreme Court, as well as the future of U.S.-China relations.

On Democrat Tactics

“What [Democrats are] trying to do is delay and what they're trying to do is reframe the argument. And the treatment that they are giving Judge Barrett I think is incredibly inappropriate. They did this to Justice Kavanaugh and it looks like they want to get back to their old tricks.”

On the Senator’s Upcoming Meeting with Judge Barrett
“I am going to look at some of her writings and opinions and I want to talk with her about her philosophy of the government and how the judiciary works. I appreciated being at the White House on Saturday and hearing her remarks there… She sees the court as acting on policy: they apply the law, they do not make the law. What the American people want, what Tennesseans want, is judges who will apply the law.”
