A Blackburn Spokesperson released the following statement in response to President Biden’s vow to veto S.J. Res. 47, which would overturn the CARES Act home confinement authority for federal prisoners under the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) that was explicitly enacted in response to the COVID national emergency.

“The Biden administration is pushing to allow convicted criminals to remain out on the streets under the guise of COVID. Convicted criminals who have already been released from home confinement due to COVID-19 have been re-arrested for human smuggling, aggravated assault, theft, and drug and weapon charges. This is why American families do not feel safe. Radical, soft-on-crime policies have enabled violent criminals to flourish under the Biden administration. In Memphis, major violent crime is up 60%, and in Washington, DC, robberies have increased by 70%. The COVID national emergency is over. Criminals need to be behind bars, not out on the streets.”
