What Blackburn said:

  • “You are charged with leading a very important agency… That you would have been involved in this process of weaponizing the FBI, this is something that should never happen. People do not want to see two tiers of justice… You [were] a participant in this [FBI] investigation, a part of this meeting in the situation room [in July 2016 where] they carried out this hoax. They made it all up, [it was a] figment of her [Hillary Clinton’s] imagination to discredit someone.”

What McDonough said:

  • “Yeah…it's been a long time since I've thought about that.”
  • “I'm not sure I know which meeting you're talking about, but I'd be more than happy to look at it.”

What the facts say:

  • McDonough was President Obama’s Chief of Staff from January 2012 to January 2017.
  • In July 2016, McDonough participated in a meeting with then National Security Advisor Susan Rice, then Director of National Intelligence (DNI) James Clapper, then CIA Director John Brennan, and then Director of the National Security Agency Michael Rogers where they discussed the Russian-collusion hoax.
