Blackburn & Blumenthal Joint Statement Ahead Of Hearing With Tech Giants
January 25, 2024
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ahead of next week’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing with Big Tech CEOs, U.S. Senators Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), both members of the Committee, released the following statement:
“Big Tech executives have been making the same hollow promises for years as kids are suffering horrific harms online. Without real and enforceable reforms, social media companies will only continue publicly pretending to care about young people’s safety while privately prioritizing profits. As urged by young people, parents, and experts who are fed up with this tired playbook, we are redoubling our efforts to pass the Kids Online Safety Act to make real change for kids online. We are continuing to work with various stakeholders and colleagues on the bill to ensure we have strong legislation that will swiftly become law.”
