Blackburn on Fox Business: ‘We Have the Votes to Pass KOSA in the House’
December 11, 2024
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today on Fox Business’ Varney & Co., U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) urged House Republican leadership to call a vote on the Kids Online Safety Act, which overwhelmingly passed the Senate 91-3 in July. Last week, free speech champion Elon Musk endorsed the new negotiated text as well as X CEO Linda Yaccarino and Donald Trump, Jr.

STUART VARNEY: “House lawmakers have just weeks to pass the bipartisan Kids Online Safety Act before the new Congress is sworn in. The Senate has already passed this bill with overwhelming majority. This bill would limit who kids can talk to, limit infinite scrolling and notifications, make it easy for kids to delete data, and a whole lot more… Are there enough votes to get this thing passed now?”
SENATOR BLACKBURN: “Yes, indeed. In the House, we have enough votes to get it passed. It is a matter of the Leader and the Speaker in the House actually putting it on the floor and calling a vote. There’s been all these falsehoods about the bill, and we have worked to tighten up protections on free speech. We have addressed some of the ‘duty of care.’ There is absolutely no reason for the bill not to move forward.”
“Stuart, when Elon Musk has signed off on this bill – he is truly the free speech champion. He bought X to make certain that free speech was protected. And he and Linda Yaccarino, who is the CEO of X, have both tweeted in support. Donald Trump, Jr. has tweeted in support. We need to make certain we put protections in place for our children in the virtual space just like we have them in the physical space.”
