Blackburn Statement on Impeachment of Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas
February 13, 2024
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) released the following statement after the House of Representatives successfully voted to impeach Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
“Under the Biden administration, there have been over 8.8 million illegal encounters at the border, including 49 potential terrorists caught since October,” said Senator Blackburn. “In 2023, ICE deported only 142,000 people, less than 5% of all illegal crossings. Secretary Mayorkas is not just failing at his job, he is upending the foundation of our democracy: the rule of law. At every opportunity, Secretary Mayorkas has led DHS to prioritize making illegal immigration legal and putting lawbreakers ahead of law-abiding Americans. Under his watch, illegally entering our country is no longer a crime. The current Secretary of Homeland Security is not doing his job to secure the homeland, and when given the opportunity, I will vote to convict him.”
