Blackburn Statement On Schumer’s Partisan Rejection Of Mayorkas Impeachment Articles
April 17, 2024
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) released the following statement after Senator Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) moved to quickly reject the articles of impeachment against DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas without holding a Senate trial.
“Today is a sad day in the history of the U.S. Senate as Leader Schumer and Democrats desperately attempt to sweep Biden’s border catastrophe under the rug,” said Senator Blackburn. “Our current Secretary of Homeland Security refuses to do his primary job: secure the homeland. Under his leadership, over 9.4 million immigrants have been welcomed to ILLEGALLY enter our country, including potential terrorists and dangerous criminals who have harmed American citizens. Thousands of migrant children have been used, abused, and recycled by cartels. It is unfathomable that we would allow this to occur in the United States.”
“If this partisan coverup were happening in the GOP, there would be uproar on every front page in America. Rejecting the impeachment articles against Secretary Mayorkas – without allowing Senators and the people they represent to hear the evidence – is an unprecedented disservice to the American public.”
