Blackburn Leads Resolution To Recognize ‘American Girls In Sports Day’
May 2, 2024
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) led over 20 of her Republican colleagues in introducing a resolution to recognize October 10 as ‘American Girls in Sports Day.’
“For nearly 50 years, Title IX has represented an American commitment to provide women with equal opportunities in educational programs and activities. Today, the Biden administration is intent on erasing the contributions made by women and changing the world of athletics as we know it. Now more than ever, it’s important to celebrate girls and women in sports, and I’m glad to champion this resolution in their honor,” said Senator Blackburn.

- Riley Gaines, Caitlyn Jenner, Sage Steele, Independent Women's Forum, Concerned Women for America, Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, Family Policy Alliance, Alliance Defending Freedom, and Parents Defending Education Action have endorsed this resolution.
“It’s because of brave Tennessee women like Sen Blackburn, Wilma Rudolph and Pat Head Summitt that women can serve and compete at the highest levels. I can’t wait to celebrate real women on XX day!” said Riley Gaines, Ambassador for Independent Women's Forum.
“As the world’s greatest athlete, with an international platform reaching millions, it is my privilege to use my voice to advocate on the simple common sense issue of fairness in sports for women and girls. Moreover, as a parent and grandparent of numerous daughters and granddaughters, I personally find it more important than ever to stand up to the radical lefts attacks on hard fought protections found in Title IX. I witnessed firsthand the fight for these protections for women and girls in the 70’s, at the height of my athletic career. It is critical at a time such as this all of us unite around common sense and emphasize the importance of American women and girls in sports!” said Caitlyn Jenner, Olympic Decathlon Gold Medalist and Founding Spokesperson of Fairness First.
“As a longtime sportscaster and champion of women’s sports, I am appalled and disgusted with the Biden administration’s decision to tear apart Title IX after more than 50 years of progress. Therefore, I am honored to stand alongside Senator Marsha Blackburn as she chooses to fight back and celebrate women and girls. I am so grateful for her commitment, and I will personally do everything in my power to forever protect, uplift and celebrate women and girls! Can’t wait until October 10th!” said Sage Steele, Host of The Sage Steele Show.
"With the Biden Administration illegally gutting Title IX protections for women, it's more important than ever that Congress and the American people stand up and remember why we have women's athletics in the first place. As a mother of three girls, I'm grateful that women and girls have a champion in Senator Marsha Blackburn, and a day like October 10 to celebrate women's sports,” said Carrie Lukas, President of Independent Women's Forum.
"Title IX was a hard-won victory for female achievement. For the past 50 years, it has given women and girls opportunities in sports that they never had before. But those opportunities are now being erased for the sake of men who claim to be women. Women and girls are disproportionately harmed when men choose to compete in our sports. Men have real biological advantages over women in sports. These hardworking, talented female athletes should not have to lose out on scholarships and accolades or surrender the privacy of their locker rooms because part of our society has chosen to deny that reality. We commend Senator Blackburn and her colleagues for recognizing the importance of protecting the dignity of female sports,” said Penny Nance, CEO and President of Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee.
“After 50 years of working to advance professional and educational opportunities for women, Title IX has been co-opted by the sexual revolution. Rather than protecting spaces where women can flourish, achieve, and compete, the Biden administration has chosen to prioritize the advancement of sexual orientation and gender identity policies. Southern Baptists believe our biological realities cannot be ignored and any attempt to do so will inevitably bring harm to women and our society. We’re thankful for Senator Blackburn’s leadership and this opportunity to affirm that truth,” said Hannah Daniel, Director of Public Policy for the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission.
“Family Policy Alliance supports this resolution and is happy to continue fighting to protect opportunities for girls and women in sports,” said Dylan Jeremiah, Director of Government Affairs for Family Policy Alliance.
"The Biden administration has launched a full on assault on girls and women's rights in America. With his Title IX rewrite, he has destroyed decades of progress females have fought to achieve, taken away exclusive access girls deserve to have in locker rooms and on the sports fields, and stripped away fairness and equality. Parents Defending Education Action is proud to stand alongside champions for women and girls, like Sen. Marsha Blackburn, who are taking a stand against the radical, anti-female policies pushed by this administration. We proudly endorse the launch of "American Girls in Sports Day" and look forward to celebrating amazing female athletes nationwide,” said Michele Exner, Director of Federal Affairs for Parents Defending Education Action.
